Marvin Chavez brace earns road point in New York

By Buzz Carrick

Marvin Chavez picked up his second and third goals of the year last night in New York to earn FC Dallas a road point in the brutal heat. Thierry Henry scored his league-leading 11th goal of the season in the 85th minute to salvage a 2-2 draw in front of 17,276 at Red Bull Arena after Dallas had taken the 2-1 lead in the 78th minute.

Red Bull had gone up a goal in the first half on a Juan Agudelo goal but Dallas rallied in the 2nd half to lead it late on. Coach Hyndman wasn't please with the way his team played, particularly in the first half. "Of course we are happy with a tie. I thought we were very poor in the first half. I did not think we played very well in the first half. Being down a goal, to come back, I think showed a lot of character and courage on our part. Being up a goal, you are disappointed. Both of us had difficult road trips. It took a lot of character for us to come back from that first half.”

FC Dallas travels to El Salvador this week to open CONCACAF Champions League preliminary round play with a July 26 match at Alianza. The Dallas side returns to league play on Sunday, July 31, playing host to Chivas USA at Pizza Hut Park. The team will fly back to Dallas on Sunday, take Monday off, and then train Tuesday morning before flying to San Salvador, El Salvador.
