Richard Sanchez discusses his roots

By Buzz Carrick

There is a really nice piece on FCD's mega-talented home-grown goalkeeper Richard Sanchez in ESPN HS magazine.  Sanchez became the first male American-born player to win a world title in soccer when he brought home the U17 World Championship with Mexico.

FC Dallas' Richard Sanchez, the first American-born player to win a world title in soccer, explains his feelings about playing for Mexico.
In the piece Sanchez talks about the journey to the title and how he joined the Mexican team. He talks openly about being an American and Mexican.  Here's just a taste:

"I’ll be honest, I do feel more Mexican than American even though I’ve never truly lived in Mexico. I was born in California and live in Texas now, but I was eligible to play for Mexico because my parents were born there."

Give it a read, it's well worth checking out.
