Meet Alfred Koroma

August, 12, 2011
Alfred Koroma is an interesting name from around these parts, he's from Dallas and just played in the U17 World Championships for the US. He's been a player for Solar-Chelsea here in the Metroplex for some time, but recently he played with the FCD Academy in the Generation adidas cup. Koroma's been in the US since he was 9, but as his playing for the US indicates, he is a US citizen.

Koroma's currently in Sweden on a trial with AIK and an interview with him as popped up on line (thanks to Clint Eastwood on bigsoccer). Let's just say you can clearly tell he's just a 17 year old kid, but he is an interesting prospect. I'd love to see FCD find a way to hold on to him, but since he's not really an Academy player that may not be possible.

FC Dallas at U17 Worlds

July, 2, 2011
Unfortunately for US fans the Nats run at the U17 World Championship has come to an end. FCD Academy player Kellyn Acosta again played 90 minutes but the US was routed 4-0 by Germany. Fellow North Texans Matt Dunn and Alfred Koroma also started and played 90.

FCD's home grown signing Richard Sanchez continues to be the man in the nets for Mexico as our Southern Neighbors took out Panama 2-0. Sanchez wasn't tested to severally as Meixco dominated possession and the shots. Mexico now moves on to play France on the 4th of July, and if they continue to progress will face the winner of Germany/England on the 7th. The FIFA U17 Championship Final will take place on the 10th in Mexico City.

FC Dallas at u17 Worlds Update

June, 25, 2011
FC Dallas, as we've mentioned before, has two players at the U17 World Championships taking place right now in Mexico. Richard Sanchez, FCD's home grown goalkeeper, is the #1 net-minder for Mexico. 15 year old Kellyn Acosta has been starting in the back line for the US.

Mexico has played two more games since we last checked in and won both. First a 2-1 win over the Congo to secure advancement. Then a 3-2 win over the Dutch that eliminated the Orange. Sanchez started both games and in both Mexico was out shot by a healthy margin, 15 to 11 versus Congo and 25 to 12 against the Dutch.

Unfortuantly for US fans, the Yanks dropped their second game, a 2-1 loss to Uzbekistan. Kellyn Acosta started and played all 90 minutes. North Texan Matt Dunn also started and play 90 in midfield. Solar's Alfred Koroma came on at halftime and score the US goal. Koroma has now scored in both US games.

With all four team in Group D tied on 3 points, the US will need a results of some kind against New Zealand today to advance.

FC Dallas at the U17 World Championships

June, 20, 2011
FC Dallas has two players performing for their country at the U17 World Championships taking place right now in Mexico.

Home Grown signing Goalkeeper Richard Sanchez is representing mexico. He started the first match for our Southern neighbors and performed well allowing a loan goal on 9 shots in the 3-1 win over North Korea.

FCD Academy Defender Kellyn Acosta started for the US in their opening match. He started and played 90 minutes in the back line in the 3-0 win over the Czech Republic for the US of A. (Acosta is #16 in the picture with this article on FIFA.com)

Also of local Dallas interest, former FCD youth product Matt Dunn, now with FC Cologne, started and played 90 minutes in midfield. Solar SC player Alfred Koroma subbed in at the 87th minute mark and scored the final goal for the US.
