Dallas Soccer: Andrew Wenger
What are your general thoughts on Jesse Marsch’s club?
Hyndman: Expansion team, glad to see them get their first win, I didn’t want them to be hungry after us. A home team, not surprisingly they’ve worked hard. They’ve been pretty intense. They lead the league in fouls with I think 95 called on. The second team is Colorado with 72, big jump from second to first. I think that’s because they’re hungry and it’s the coaching mentality. Jesse Marsch is a guy that’s always been a battler, very courageous, a fighter. A lot of times your team will reflect the coach and there’s things that he wants, some players that he wants that will do the things he wants. So I think they got their first three points. They have to be real excited about that. They’re coming in trying to get success on the road.
Has Andrew Wenger, the top overall pick in the 2012 MLS Super Draft, been every bit as good as advertised?
Hyndman: Yeah, I think he was on everyone’s list for the first pick in the draft. He’s another very good player but also very versatile.
Shavar Thomas, who played for the Dallas Burn back in 2003, is a guy who has hung around in MLS for some time and had a nice career. Talk about him.
Hyndman: He’s really taken care of himself, a guy that plays in the league and in a position like that who continues to play. They’re athletic. They’re courageous. They’re able to overcome pain and then as they get older, they’re able to keep a good lifestyle, keep shape, keep good recovery because as you get older and the pain starts to come, you need just a little bit more time. You need an extra day, an extra two days. I think he’ s had an excellent career. By no means is it over. I don’t mean it that way, but he ought to be really proud of himself.
