Dallas Soccer: Honduras

One of the fun sidelights of tonight's friendly between the US and Honduras down in Miami is the match up of FC Dalas teammates Marvin Chavez and Brek Shea. It's even conceivable that the two could match up head to head with Shea as left mid and Chavez at right mid.

Shea has emerged as a favorite of U.S. National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann after assisting on Robbie Rogers’ goal in the 73rd minute of a 1-1 draw against Mexico on Aug. 10. The Texas native has played the full 90 minutes in both of the U.S.’s matches since, logging a total of 210 minutes.

Chavez has played 84 minutes for the Honduran National Team in the team’s last three matches and started Honduras’ latest match. The midfielder logged 28 minutes in a 3-0 loss to Paraguay on Sept. 6 before leaving the match with an ankle injury.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. CT on FOX Soccer and Univision.

(Edit: Shea is starting for the US. Chavez is on the bench for Honduras.)
FC Dallas midfielder Marvin Chavez has been called in to represent Honduras in its upcoming friendly against Colombia on Saturday, Sept. 3 at Red Bull Arena at 9:00 p.m. CT.

Chavez flew directly to New York from Seattle following FC Dallas’ 1-0 loss to the Seattle Sounders in the semifinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tuesday night. Chavez will rejoin the team on Wednesday, Sept. 7.

Chavez has made 50 appearances for FC Dallas since making his MLS debut on Sept. 12, 2009 in a 6-3 win over the Los Angeles Galaxy at the Home Depot Center. Along with goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, Chavez is one of only two FC Dallas players to see time in every regular season match this year. Most comfortable as an outside midfielder, Chavez has also spent time at forward this season. He has recorded career highs in both goals (5) and assists (4).
