Here’s an update on Dallas Stars prospects Matt Fraser and Hubert Labrie, who both are trying to help their teams win league championships in Canadian juniors and earn a trip to the Memorial Cup.
*Fraser, a forward, had two goals Saturday as Kootenay defeated Portland 7-5 in Game 2 of the Western Hockey League championship series, which is now tied 1-1. Fraser now has 23 points (14 goals, 9 assists) in 16 playoff games. His 14 goals rank second in the WHL playoffs. Game 3 of the series is Tuesday at Kootenay.
*Labrie, a defenseman, scored one goal and had a plus-one rating as Gatineau defeated St. John 3-2 Saturday night to even the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League President’s Cup final at 1-1. Labrie’s point shot through traffic early in the first period gave Gatineau a 1-0 lead. Labrie, who scored a goal in the first game of the series as well, has 10 points (4 goals, 6 assists) in 20 playoff games and his plus-22 rating is tops in the QMJHL playoffs.
