The Dallas Stars will open the season with a home-and-home series against the Chicago Blackhawks, with the two teams opening the season Friday October 7 at American Airlines Center. The teams will square off again Saturday October 8 in Chicago.

The Stars and the NHL released the full 2011-12 regular season schedule on Thursday afternoon. Nothing has changed as far as the scheduling format.

The Stars will play 24 games against Pacific foes, 40 games against the other teams in the Western Conference and 18 games against the Eastern Conference teams, taking on all 15 Eastern teams once and facing off against three Eastern teams (New Jersey, NY Islanders, and Pittsburgh) both home and away.

The nine teams from the East that the Stars will host at American Airlines Center are: Boston, Florida, NY Islanders, New Jersey, Ottawa, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, and Toronto.

The Stars’ longest homestand this season will be four games and that will happen twice. The first one is Nov. 19-25 (San Jose, Edmonton, Los Angeles and Toronto) and the second is from March 16-24 (Chicago, Phoenix, Vancouver, and Calgary).

Besides the home opener, some other notable home games include:

*Oct. 29: Martin Brodeur, Zach Parise and the New Jersey Devils
*Nov. 25: Toronto Maple Leafs visit the day after Thanksgiving
*Dec. 21: Philadelphia Flyers
*Dec. 31: Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins on New Year’s Eve
*Jan. 3: Detroit Red Wings make their first of two visits to Dallas
*Jan. 29: Steven Stamkos, Martin St. Louis and the Tampa Bay Lightning
*Feb. 29: Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and the Pittsburgh Penguins

The longest stretch of consecutive road games for the Stars is five and that is from Dec. 8-16 when they play games at San Jose, Los Angeles, New York Rangers, New York Islanders and New Jersey.

The Stars have 14 back-to-back series this season.
