The Dallas Stars have signed defenseman Sheldon Souray to a one-year, $1.65 million contract. Souray played last season with Hershey of the American Hockey League, where he had 19 points (4 goals, 15 assists) in 40 games.
The 34-year-old has one of the hardest shots in hockey. He has 262 points, including 96 goals, in 650 career NHL games. He last played in the NHL in 2009-10 with the Edmonton Oilers.

If you include forward Tomas Vincour, the Stars have 23 likely roster players under contract for about 49.9 million in cap costs, which is $1.6 million above the cap floor. Take out Vincour and they're at $49.1 million in cap costs with 22 likely roster players in the mix.
