DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars placed seven players on waivers Saturday. Some of those players soon could be headed to the Texas Stars, who open training camp early next week.
The players are : Maxime Fortunus, Eric Godard, Brad Lukowich, Travis Morin, Raymond Sawada, Dan Spang and Francis Wathier.
The most notable name on the list is Godard. It’s an indication that he could be starting the season in the AHL, although that is not written in stone. A lot could change between now and when the Stars' opening night roster is finalized.
The belief is that putting Godard on waivers Saturday, the first day of waivers, reduces the risk that he will be taken because teams are still at a point where they have several players on their roster. Another deterrent to a team taking Godard is he has a two-year contract and the second year is a one-way deal that will pay him $700,000 whether he is in the NHL or AHL.
The deadline for a team to put in a claim on any of the players is Monday at 11 a.m. Central Time.
