FRISCO -- It was a newsy kind of day in Frisco, especially on the injury front. Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk indicated that defenseman Adam Pardy and Nicklas Grossman would not play this weekend when the Stars open the season with a home-and-home series against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Pardy, who did not practice today, has a rib injury, according to coach Glen Gulutzan. Pardy was placed on IR retroactive to October 1, when he suffered the injury in a preseason game against St. Louis. The move opens up a roster spot to allow defenseman Philip Larsen to stay on the roster to open the season
Gulutzan said Grossman, who left practice early, has a groin issue. In his post practice media session Gulutzan wasn't ready to rule the defenseman out, but he said even if they were out he has confidence in what the Stars have on the roster.
"We still have eight D here and we're confident in all eight," Gulutzan said.
With Pardy and Grossman out, Larsen and Mark Fistric would join Alex Goligoski, Stephane Robidas, Trevor Daley and Sheldon Souray as the Stars' group on defense.
Adam Burish, who has been dealing with a sore groin, did not skate today.
"I would say Bur is unlikely for Friday," Gulutzan said. "We needed him to skate today to get in Friday, but Saturday is still in range. If he could get two good skates in I think he could be ready. We'll see if he gets on the ice tomorrow. He's getting better, so that's the positive there."
*Prospective Dallas Stars owner Tom Gaglardi was in Frisco today checking things out.
*Rick Carlisle, head coach of the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks and members of his staff attended today's practice and met with Stars coach Glen Gulutzan and his staff.
"I learned something the first ten minutes talking to him," said Gulutzan. "Like any good coach, he's here picking up what he can. I don't know if he learned anything from us, maybe not what to do. He just wanted to come out and see how other sports operate. I though it was pretty neat."
Here as the practice lineup for Wednesday. The defensive pairings were mixed with Pardy not practicing.
