The Dallas Stars ran their winning streak to four games with a 5-2 victory over the Washington Capitals Tuesday night. The Stars, who improved to 11-3-0 on the season, handed Washington its first home loss of the season. Michael Ryder had two goals and Jamie Benn had one goal and two assists for the Stars, who have scored 17 goals over their last three games. Adam Burish had one goal and one assist and Eric Nystrom also scored for the Stars. Kari Lehtonen stopped 30 shots in picking up his league-leading 11th win.
The Stars struck first after a waved off icing call. Jamie Benn got to the loose puck and the end result was Michael Ryder tipping a Trevor Daley shot past Caps goalie Michal Neuvirth at the 10:32 mark.
The Capitals drew even by cashing in on their first power play of the game. Nicklas Backstrom chipped the puck from the corner to Alexander Semin, who scored off a blast from the right circle at 15:43 of the first.
But the Stars regained the lead less than two minutes later when Benn sent a cross-ice pass to Ryder, who froze Neuvirth with a move at the side of the goal and then slipped the puck into the net at the 17:16 mark.
The Capitals tied the game with 4:04 left in the second period. After getting pinned in their own zone, the Stars iced the puck and on the following faceoff, the Caps won the draw and defenseman John Carlson scored off a blast from the right point to make it a 2-2 game.
The Stars scored just 24 seconds into the third period to take a 3-2 lead just as their third power play expired. After a faceoff, Brenden Morrow got to the puck and centered to Adam Burish, who fought off Backstrom and backhanded the puck past Neuvirth.
The Stars made it a 4-2 game by cashing in on their fourth power play of the game. Benn scored off the rebound of a Sheldon Souray shot at the 7:33 mark.
Just 32 seconds later Eric Nystrom scored a goal off the rush, putting in the net while airborne, and the Stars had a 5-2 lead in the game.
