The Dallas Stars staged a late rally to defeat the Ottawa Senators 3-2 at American Airlines Center Thursday night. Radek Dvorak tied the game with 5:34 remaining and then Eric Nystrom scored with 2:20 left to give the Stars the victory. Steve Ott also scored for Dallas, which improved to 15-9-1 on the season. Andrew Raycroft stopped 33 of 35 shots to win his second straight start.
Ottawa opened the scoring 7:07 into the game. After Senators defenseman knocked down Dallas defenseman Philip Larsen at the Stars blue line, Ottawa got a two-on-one and Erik Condra scored off a wrist shot.
The Stars drew even at the 9:38 mark by cashing in on the their second power play chance of the game. Toby Petersen’s shot from the left point was tipped into the net by Steve Ott. It was the Stars' first power play goal in nine games.
Shots were 4-4 in a scoreless second period. The Stars had a good chance, but Senators goalie Craig Anderson made a nice stop on Jamie Benn with the Stars on a two-on-one.
The Stars had some good chances in the third. Steve Ott hit the side of the net on a good look and a Benn bid was denied by a nice Anderson pad save.
Ottawa took 2-1 leadwith8:28 remaining. A Daniel Alfredsson shot rebounded out to the left circle, where Milan Michalek knocked the puck down with his hand and then rifled a shot past Raycroft for his 15th goal of the season.
The Stars tied it with 5:34 remaining when Mike Ribeiro came into the Ottawa zone, moved to the left to the left wall and centered the puck to Radek Dvorak, who had just come off the bench, and Dvorak tipped the puck past Anderson.
The Stars took a 3-2 lead with 2:20 remaining when the third pinned the Senators in their own end, Eric Nystrom came out from the behind the goal line and ripped a shot past Anderson. Vernon Fiddler and Dvorak picked up the assists.
The Senators pulled Anderson with a little more than a minute later, but Raycroft held the fort for the Stars, who improved to 4-1-1 over their last six games.
