About the Stars
The Stars (17-11-1) won for the fourth time in the last six games (4-2-0), defeating the New York Rangers 1-0 at Madison Square Garden Tuesday night. Goaltender Richard Bachman stopped 34 shots to post his first NHL shutout in just his second start.
“It’s huge, it’s a lot like playoff hockey and coming into this building on this road trip, the longest one of the year for us, it’s always nice to get two points,” said Bachman, who is 2-0-0 with a 0.43 goals against average and a .986 save percentage in three appearances for the Stars this season.
Trevor Daley scored the game’s lone goal with 4:59 left in regulation. Daley has scored the last two game-winning goals for the Stars.
Bachman will get his third straight start in Thursday’s game.
About the Islanders
The Islanders (9-13-6) saw their winless streak hit three games (0-2-1) with a 5-3 loss at Montreal Tuesday night. The Islanders rallied from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game in the third period, but the Canadiens bounced back with two goals to get the two points.
"They battled and that's what you look for," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. "We're down by two goals and we kept coming, we didn't quit. Those guys aren't going to quit. There's no excuses for losing and sometimes you get sick and tired of hearing it but it was a game that I thought we at least come out with a point for sure."
D Steve Staios suffered a concussion in Tuesday’s game and is out for Thursday.
