Stars fall to Flyers, 4-1

The Dallas Stars fell to 1-1-0 on their current homestand, losing 4-1 to the Philadelphia Flyers at American Airlines Center Wednesday night. Michael Ryder scored the lone goal for the Stars. Dallas goaltender Richard Bachman stopped 26 of 30 shots and fell to 4-2-0 since being called up from the AHL. Flyers center Claude Giroux, back in the lineup after missing four games with a concussion, had one goal and three assists in the game.

First period

The Stars scored 56 seconds into the game when Loui Eriksson dropped the puck to Michael Ryder off the rush and Ryder beat Flyers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky with a snap shot from the slot.

The Flyers tied it at 8:30 with a goal off the rush. Stars goalie Richard Bachman stopped Jaromir Jagr’s shot from the slot but a wide open Claude Giroux knocked in the rebound from close range to make it a 1-1 game.

The Flyers got the first power play of the game and cashed in to take a 2-1 lead when Wayne Simmonds tipped home a Kimmo Timonen shot from the point.

Stars forward Steve Ott and Flyers coach Peter Laviolette had a little incident as the two teams were heading off the ice after the first period. You can see it here on YouTube.

Second period

The Flyers extended their lead to 3-1 at the 8:00 mark of the second period with their second power play goal of the game. Jaromir Jagr finished off a give-and-go with Claude Giroux, beating Richard Bachman with a shot from the slot.

Things got a little chippy in the second with a total of 44 penalty minutes, including ten minute misconducts being handed out.

Third period

The Flyers scored early in the third period to make it 4-1 when wide open defenseman Andre Meszaros scored from the left wing on the rush.
