Here are some postgame quotes from the Dallas Stars after their 2-1 loss to the Colorado Avalanche Saturday afternoon at American Airlines Center.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan on the game
“I thought it took us a while to get going. [The Vernon Fiddler] goal gave us a little bit of a lift and I thought we were coming in the third anyway, we had some more sustained pressure. It took us a while to get our legs. It was tough coming off the trip here to get going, Kari [Lehtonen] did a great job of holding us in until we could get going, we tied it up and then one snuck in.”
Gulutzan on the power play, which was 0-3 and is 3-36 over the last 11 games
“I think it’s a combination of everything and we are obviously lacking confidence in there, too. We had some shots and we didn’t have net presence. Then we had net presence and didn’t get our shots through. We’ve had chances. … but we’ve got to convert. “
Stars captain Brenden Morrow on the impact of the recent travel on the team’s slow start
“It wasn’t our best in the first. I think as the game went on we got better and better. As tough as that is on the body physically I think it is all a mental battle. If you’re telling yourself that you should be tired because of the travel then you are more than likely going to be. You’ve got focus and prepare a little extra to get the body going. We obviously didn’t do enough because the start wasn’t what we wanted, but we battled hard and got back in the game.”
Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen on Colorado’s first goal
“I shouldn’t have gone there (behind the net) when I see that they are pressuring so hard. Their guy was giving me lots of pressure. I should have just stayed in the net and made our D go get it and probably get hit, at least I would have been in front of the net.”
Colorado goalie J-S Gigure on the Stars getting one shot on goal in the first period
"I think the shot guy should get some glasses, he missed a couple there in the first, but whatever."
