About the Stars
The Stars (24-18-1) are coming off a 2-1 loss to Colorado Saturday afternoon at American Airlines Center. The Stars managed just one shot on goal in the first period, eventually tied the game in the third but lost when the Avalanche scored a power play goal with 9:25 left in the game.
“It’s our home building and we’re fighting for a playoff spot and we just didn’t have enough tonight,” said Stars center Vernon Fiddler. “We played a lot better in the third, but it was a little too late.”
The Stars are 4-5-0 over their last nine games and 6-7-0 over their last 13 contests.
Stars center Jamie Benn had an appendectomy Sunday and is expected to be out 10 days to two weeks.
About the Blues
The Blues (26-12-6) ran their points streak to six games (5-0-1) with a 3-2 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild at Scottrade Center Saturday. Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored the lone goal of the shootout and Jaroslav Halak stopped all three shots he faced. It was the Blues’ first shootout victory in six tries.
"I think for us, we're at a stage to win a game in a shootout is a really good feeling for our team ... almost more exciting than winning it in regulation," Blues coach Ken Hitchcock said. "I think this is a big weight off of everybody's shoulders. I couldn't believe the difference on the bench when we were shocked we scored a goal, and we were even more shocked when we won. That's as much joy I've seen on a bench for a long time when we won a shootout."
The Blues are 10-0-2 in their last 12 home games.
