Here’s a quote from Stars coach Glen Gulutzan on dealing with the loss of Jamie Benn and Mike Ribeiro, his top two centers who are expected to be out until after the All-Star break.
“Obviously you don’t wish it, but it’s like anything. It’s life. You can’t control it. You just hope that Benny is OK and he is this morning.
“It’s an opportunity. I think we needed to start playing a certain way consistently and when you take your top two centermen out of your lineup, it forces you to play a certain way. Maybe this is a little bit of a blessing in disguise because our team needed to play a certain way more consistently and now they are going to have to.
“If we come out of this stronger and that’s what you always hope when you have injuries – is that these guys will come back and get right on board with the way these 23 guys are going. There are some positives that can come out of it.
“It wasn’t a kick in the gut or anything like that. You deal with it one day at a time. It’s like at the AA level, picking up halibut fishermen in Alaska to fill in spots. You got two kids and you’re trying to start out. There’s probably more pressure there.”
