Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings Sunday evening at American Airlines Center.
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan on the game
“We didn’t start good, that’s for sure. We gave them a goal early and had to press from behind. We should have been ready to play from the beginning. We had a couple guys not ready to go, and we had to change our matchups a little bit. By the time you’re in the game you are one mistake from being out of it, and that’s what happened at the end.”
Gulutzan on the turnovers in the game
“Turnovers cost us. Seven in the first period. One turned into a goal and one at the nine mark of the third turned into a goal. Some self-inflicted wounds once again.”
Gulutzan on getting players to be ready for games
“You’ve got to maybe take away ice time from guys who aren’t ready, and we tried to do that a little bit tonight. We had a few guys that were going and chugging. We need everybody going. We’ve done everything from no practices to practices to conserve energy, but at this time of the year you have to play a certain way. Guys have to be prepared to go. There’s no excuses for it. If we have to go in there and amp them up every night for games like this it will be tough.”
Gulutzan on the Stars' recent play
“We are 3-3-1 since the All-Star break and .500 is not what we need to get in. We need to be better than that. Certainly everybody in that room is mad, but we just need to keep moving forward. We’ve got to learn from some of these mistakes and keep going forward. We have to get out of our funk, especially at home and against teams we’re chasing.”
Stars forward Loui Eriksson
“We made a mistake there on the last goal, but I thought we played real well. We got a lot of pucks on net. We have to stay positive and keep going. There are a lot of games left.”
Kings forward Justin Williams on the win
“We’ve obviously struggled to score goals this year, so four goals for us is quite an accomplishment. Getting a four-point game, division game, they’re always important, especially with Dallas being right behind us and teams above us being right above us and everyone just clumped up it’s the way it is every year. Everything just seems so important. There’s always another game. Our next game’s coming soon. Theirs is too and that will be another big game.”
