- The Idaho Steelheads, the Stars’ ECHL affiliate, are scheduled to announce a new head coach later today. The new coach will replace Derek Laxdal, who left to take over as head coach of the WHL’s Edmonton Oil Kings. Laxdal had been with Idaho five seasons, leading the Steelheads to the Kelly Cup championship in 2007 and the Kelly Cup Finals last season.
- Let another round of Sidney Crosby vs. Alex Ovechkin hype begin. The NHL is holding its media conference today on the 2011 NHL Winter Classic. This time around it’s being held at Heinz Field and will pit the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals. More here from the Penguins’ official site.
