Jack Campbell is expected to get the start in goal when the Dallas Stars take on the Detroit Red Wings at the NHL Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan tonight. Game time is 6 p.m. (Central Time).
The Stars practiced this morning at the Center Ice Arena in Traverse City. Different line combinations were used at the practice, so we’ll see what they roll out for game one later today. Coach Glen Gulutzan said they’ll use various combinations during the tournament, which continues through Wednesday.
As for expectations during the tournament, Gulutzan had this to say.
“The biggest thing I expect is a real good work ethic,” Gulutzan said. “We haven’t added too much as far as details. We want to let the kids show. It’s still a show tournament for a lot of these guys. We want to see a good work ethic from these guys shift in and shift out. That’s what I am really looking for.”
As for Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk, he has his eyes on a lot of players. At the top of the list is forward Scott Glennie, the team’s 1st round pick (8th overall) in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft.
“The most interesting thing for me is to see the steps that Glennie is going to take now,” Nieuwendyk said. “I think it’s a big camp for him here and a big camp for him coming into in Prince Edward Island. He’s got to start knocking on the door. He’s a guy that I’ll keep a close eye on.”
Glennie said he feels he’s made progress over the past year and he’s ready to have a strong showing at this year’s tournament.
“I feel a lot more confident. I know what to expect,” Glennie said. “My physical game has improved. My skating has improved a bit and my defensive zone coverage and my defensive zone play have improved as well. I am looking forward to playing in the tournament and seeing how it goes.”
I’ll have more on Glennie in a later post and more from the arena later today.
