Notes from the Tuesday morning skate

9/21/2010

The Stars play the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the American Airlines Center in the preseason opener for both teams.

WHNZ in Tampa Bay will be providing radio coverage of the game. The station's website is here and there's a listen live link on the main page. I'll be providing updates from the game on the blog and via Twitter (@andrewsdsp).

Tom Wandell, who has a shoulder sprain, is making some good progress.

"Tom Wandell is really improving. He is going to skate on his own tomorrow," Stars coach Marc Crawford said.

Crawford added that there's a good chance Wandell could be in an exhibition game next week.

Right wing Ray Sawada, who suffered a knee injury late in the summer, is skating on his own. He could be ready for a preseason game next week as well.

Crawford said the Stars could be down to around 30 players or so by Sunday, which will come at the end of this stretch where they play three preseason games in four days.

As for Bolts, they will be without goalie Mike Smith. He got hurt yesterday, so the Lightning will be sending Dan Ellis on the trip instead.

These are the lines and defensive pairings the Stars ran in practice for the game group, and they are in the order that I saw them today.
