January turned out to be a productive month for the Stars, who picked up 17 of 22 points by going 8-2-1. Their .773 points percentage was the best in the Western Conference during the month and second best in the league behind only Philadelphia, which went 10-2-0 (.833). Here’s a look at some other stats for January.

*The Stars were 4-0-1 at home in January, outscoring their opponents 16-7 (excluding shootout goals).

*The Stars were 4-2-0 on the road and still outscored their opponents 21-20 despite the 7-4 loss at Calgary and the 7-1 loss at Vancouver. In other words, before those two games the Stars had outscored their opponents 16-6 in their first four road games of the month.

*The Stars ranked 5th in goal scoring during the month, averaging 3.36 goals per game. It was their best month offensively so far this season.

*The Stars power play was second in the league during January, hitting on 35.1 percent of its chances (13-37). It was 8-20 (40.0 percent) at home.

*The Stars averaged 24.8 shots per game in January, which ranked 30th in the league. Their shooting percentage, on the other hand, was 13.5 percent, which was tops in the league.

*The Stars allowed 2.45 goals per game, which was their best month so far this season.

*The Stars won 55.2 percent of their faceoffs for the month.

Player notes

*Kari Lehtonen was 7-1-1 in January with a 2.23 goals against average and a .932 save percentage.

*Mike Ribeiro (4 goals, 11 assists) and Brad Richards (3 goals, 12 assists) led the Stars with 15 points each in January. The two players tied for 8th among all NHL players in scoring for the month.

*Ribeiro and Richards were tied for second in points scored by per game at 1.36.

*Brenden Morrow and James Neal led the Stars in goal scoring with 7 each and they were tied for 8th in goal scoring in the NHL for the month.

*Morrow led the Stars with 3 power play goals during the month, which was tied for 5th in the league.

*Richards' 6 power play assists in the month was tied for third in the NHL.

*Nicklas Grossman led the Stars with a plus-5 rating in January.

*Philip Larsen was next, registering a plus-4 rating in three games played.

*Tom Wandell won 57.4 percent of his faceoffs (35 -61).

*Steve Ott won 57.1 percent of his faceoffs (80 -140).

*Richards won 54.0 percent of his faceoffs (82-152).

*Adam Burish won 53 percent of his faceoffs (53-100).

*Aaron Gagnon won all 7 faceoffs he took during January.
