Grading the Stars at the quarter mark
By Mark Stepneski
ESPN.com's Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun take a look at the first quarter of the NHL season, and that included handing out grades to the 30 NHL teams.
The Stars were given a grade of B-plus.
Here was the take on the Stars:
Summary: They were headed for an "A" until injuries slowed down their runaway train. Now the test is to see how they handle those injuries with that newfound depth. Still, given the departure of Brad Richards and the low expectations from the outside world, it was quite the opening quarter.
Trending: Down. The injury to Kari Lehtonen will hurt.
The grades for all 30 teams are here.
LeBrun hands out awards for the first quarter as well. Lehtonen ranked fifth in the Vezina Trophy category. Some Stars received honorable mentions for other awards: Jamie Benn (Hart Trophy), Sheldon Souray (Norris Trophy) and Glen Gulutzan (Jack Adams Award).
