DALLAS -- Carolina came out much more fired up for the second period and generated some chances. And it appeared they had tied the score.
Ray Whitney put the puck in the net and for a few moments, the game was tied. But there was a lengthy review, and the goal was disallowed. The reason: Whitney tried to kick the puck toward his stick, but the puck never hit his stick. A player can't kick the puck in the net, so it was not allowed.
It was a big break for the Stars, who got more physical after that and played better. Goalie Marty Turco made some nice saves, and the Stars generated a few scoring chances near the end of the period.
The Stars are 8-1-0 when leading after two periods.
