Jamie Benn: Feeling better every day
By Mark Stepneski
DALLAS -- Stars forward Jamie Benn, who had an appendectomy earlier this week, was at the American Airlines Center on Friday morning. He spent time riding a stationary bike as he works his way back to the lineup.
“I feel fine,” Benn said. “Feel better each day.”
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said Friday that the possibility of Benn returning before the All-Star break is remote, but that Benn should be ready to play in the NHL All-Star Game.
“I’d say [Tuesday’s game vs. Anaheim] is a remote possibility, but it is a possibility,” Gulutzan said. “He’d have to turn the corner here in the next couple of days. The All-Star Game is in range for him. We wouldn’t mind, on a team note, to have him play there. He gets a couple skates in and he’s not on a five-day break in Vegas or Cabo or something. He gets to skate and, rightfully so, play with his peers.”
Benn is weighing the options.
“Still thinking about it, still talking about it. We’ll see,” Benn said. “It’s something special, especially when it is your first one. I think you have to look at the bigger picture sometimes, and that’s playing here and having a strong second half.”
Benn underwent the appendectomy Sunday. He didn’t feel great when he got up in the morning and headed to see the team’s trainers.
“I came to the rink, told the trainers and that was about it. Went to the hospital to get checked out and I had to get it out,” Benn said. “I’m feeling alright, better each day. I’ve got a couple of scars and we’ll see how things go here.”
