Monday update: Benn skates, Souray practices

By Mark Stepneski

FRISCO -- There were encouraging signs on the injury front in Frisco today. Center Jamie Benn skated on his own at one end of the rink and defenseman Sheldon Souray took part in an optional practice at the other end.

Benn, who has missed the last two games after getting cut on the thigh with skate last Thursday, won't play Tuesday in Montreal but will travel with the team on its upcoming two-game road trip.

"He's still a couple days away," said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. "We're certainly glad the injury is stitches and not something else."

Souray has missed the last six games with a foot injury.

"I feel good," said Souray. "Just try to get a couple practices in with the guys and get some of the timing back. I haven't been off too long, so hopefully it shouldn't take too long.

Souray said he thinks he'll be able to play during the trip.

"Chicago is realistic," said Gulutzan. "I think that is what we'll be looking at."

Gulutzan said Kari Lehtonen will start in goal Tuesday at Montreal and then Richard Bachman would play Thursday at Chicago.
