Postgame quotes

By Mark Stepneski

Here are some postgame quotes following the Dallas Stars’ 3-2 overtime victory over the Vancouver Canucks Sunday afternoon.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan

“I thought we stuck with it for 60 minutes, showed some resolve and got a result at the end. It’s a big win for our hockey club going down the stretch.  … It gives us a belief that if we stick to our play we can compete and get results. It’s good for our confidences moving forward. “

Gulutzan on what he likes about his team right now

“Right now those players are playing for each other. That’s what I like about it. They are committed to each other. When you have that, those types of bonds, then you can have success. That’s what I like the most about what is going in that locker room right now.”

Gulutzan on if the game was a statement that the team wants to stick together with the trade deadline looming

“I think they all want to stick together. This is a real good group. I am sure no one wants to leave. I don’t know if it is a statement or not, but certainly we got going at the right time. We’ve got a lot of hockey left, almost a quarter of the season. Good for those guys. I don’t know what the trade deadline holds, but certainly with what we have and the way we are in that room, we are more than comfortable that when Brenden Morrow and Jamie Benn get back we can get ourselves where we need to get.”

Stars center Mike Ribeiro on the game-tying goal

“It was a big draw. Otter (Steve Ott) won it pretty clean, so it gives you more time to do something with it. Great heads up play from Goose (Alex Goligoski). We kind of looked at each other and it was more of a shot-pass than anything else and I was just trying to redirect it on net. I was lucky enough that it went in.”

“It was huge for us to get that first point and then to be able to win in overtime, it’s a big game for us. We know they’ve been on a long road trip, but we’ve been traveling, too. It’s been a grind and to come back against a team like that is good for us, it’s good for the confidence. Guys are doing the right things, special teams are kind of clicking now. Everyone is pushing right now and playing well.”

Stars forward Loui Eriksson on the four-game winning streak

“We have to keep building on the last couple games. We have been playing really good lately here. We just have to keep going here. Vancouver is really a good team and I thought we played really good and we got the two points, that’s the important thing.”

Canucks coach Alain Vigneault

“Well, we obviously made a couple mistakes there on the second and third goal. For the most part, I thought coming in this building where they play real tight checking hockey, you’ve got to work and take what they give you and they don’t give you a lot. We were up by a goal and in my opinion that shouldn’t have been an icing call even if you get those that go against you or your believe that they were wrong, you’ve still got to be able to make the plays. We had a face-off in our end and a couple of missed assignments. Obviously in overtime, they made a nice play but a couple of bad defensive moves on that goal.”
