By Mark Stepneski
The Stars have a chance to gain ground in the playoff race Friday when it comes to their Pacific Division foes.
Two points against the Edmonton Oilers and the Stars will pull even with San Jose at 73 points and be within two of Phoenix for the Pacific Division lead and third overall in the West.
Both the Sharks and Coyotes lost last night in regulation. Phoenix lost 4-2 at home to Calgary. It was the Coyotes’ first regulation loss since Jan. 31. The Sharks lost 1-0 at home to Buffalo to fall to 4-9-1 over their last 14 games.
With their win over the Coyotes, the Flames pulled to within two points of the Stars. The Flames play again tonight, taking on the Ducks in Anaheim.
Colorado had a chance to move into eighth place last night but lost 2-0 at home to Columbus.
Vancouver beat St. Louis 2-0 last night to stay on top of the West. The Blues dropped from second to fourth with the loss.
Chicago, four points ahead of the Stars and currently in sixth place, plays at Ottawa tonight.
