Stars salary cap and payroll update
By Mark Stepneski
Here’s a look at the salary cap and payroll situation for the Dallas Stars now that James Neal and Matt Niskanen are under contract.
Neal signed a two-year deal worth $5.75 million for a cap hit of $2.875 million. He’ll get paid $2.25 million this season and $3.5 million next season. Niskanen received a two-year deal worth $3 million for a cap hit of $1.5 million. His deal pays him $1.25 million this season and $1.75 million next season.
As far as actual salary costs the team will be paying this season, the Stars are now at just under $45.7 million for 23 likely roster players. That’s using the salary of Andrew Raycroft as the backup goaltender. Their internal budget for salary costs was said to be around $45 million.
As for salary cap costs, the Stars are at just under $51.3 million for those 23 players. The upper limit of the cap is $59.4 this season.
The cap cost figure also includes the $1,937,500 cap hit the Stars still take for the New York Rangers claiming Sean Avery off re-entry waivers.
Here’s a look at the likely roster for 2010-11 with each player’s roster for this season and his cap hit.
