Some thoughts on 1st period (1-0 Phoenix)
By Richard Durrett
DALLAS -- The first period ended with the Coyotes taking a 1-0 advantage. A few thoughts:
* The Coyotes dominated on shots on goal, holding a 13-5 advantage. The Stars didn't have many scoring chances, something Dave Tippett teams stress with the defensive approach.
* Dallas had trouble taking care of the puck earlier in the period, making some ill-advised decisions. They played a little better later in the period, but still made some bad passes. Heck, Jamie Benn even hit Brenden Morrow in the face with the puck, drawing blood.
* Alex Auld made some nice saves as the Coyotes generated some odd-man rushes. There was nothing Auld could do on the goal, which was the result of a nice pass across the slot by Shane Doan to Keith Yandle.
* Look for the Coyotes to really clamp down and make life difficult for the Stars to get any chances. Dallas needs to get physical in the second period to try to grab some momentum and make more things happen.
