Mike Ribeiro talks about arrest

By Mark Stepneski

Stars center Mike Ribeiro was on the ice for the team's practice Monday morning following his late Sunday night arrest for public intoxication in Plano, and after practice he faced questions about the arrest.

"It’s my personal life and I’d like to keep it like that," Ribeiro said. "It’s not a good situation and I want to keep it personal right now and concentrate on hockey."

Ribeiro and three other people were arrested at the RA Sushi Bar Restaurant following an altercation with another group of patrons. Ribeiro said the incident wasn't "a big thing" and that he wanted to move forward from it.

"I wish there were cameras there and you could have seen what happened. I guess a lot of people would have a different opinion about what happened," Ribeiro said. "I'm clear in my mind of what happened and I just want to put that behind us today and look forward to tomorrow."

Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk also talked to the media Monday and said the team is looking into the incident.

“It’s a matter that we as an organization take very seriously, especially when the police are involved," Nieuwendyk said. "We’ll gather all the information and handle everything internally."

As about possible discipline for Ribeiro, Nieuwendyk said the team will gather all the information and then decide how to handle things.

As for it being a possible distraction to the team and the coaching staff, Stars head coach Marc Crawford said it he doesn't see it being a problem in that regard.

"It doesn’t really concern us. Joe’s already talked about it and we’re handling it internally," Crawford said. "We talked to Mike and we just keep moving forward. That’s the best way to approach things. There’s not much more than we can say about that."
