Wednesday update: Fistric doubtful

By Mark Stepneski

Stars defenseman Mark Fistric, who injured a groin in yesterday’s practice, appears doubtful  for tonight’s game in Ottawa, according to a team official.  It’s being called a game-time decision.  If he can’t go then most likely Jeff Woywitka or possibly Severin Blindenbacher would slide into the lineup.

Toby Petersen, who got caught up in the play that injured Fistric yesterday, is  also a little dinged up but he is probable for tonight.

Andrew Raycroft will make his third start of the season in in goal.

The Stars head into the game with a 2-4-1 record over their last seven games. That stretch includes four straight losses on the road. I talked to Stars coach Marc Crawford on Tuesday and asked him about the recent struggles on the road and this is what he had to say.

“Other teams are playing better than us. That’s truly what it’s been,” Crawford said. “We’re not playing poorly. Other teams are doing a few more things right. The differences are so fractional right now. You’re trying to eliminate two or three chances and you are trying to generate two or three more. For us, we are looking at details like dump-ins, recovery on our forecheck and things like that. It’s really, really, really small issues.

“I guess it’s just acceptance and understanding that to win you have to have the execution of the simple systems in your game. How you get pucks deep in the zone, not turning the puck over, your backcheck and all those things. You are never going to execute at 100 percent, no one does but you’ve got to try to get it to be as close to high end as you can get it. That’s where we’re at.”
