December by the numbers

The Dallas Stars started the month of December strong and ended it on a bit of a slide. Here’s a look at some of the stats for the Stars for December.
*The Stars went 8-5-3 in December for a .594 points percentage. That was tied for seventh with Detroit among Western Conference teams. It was third among Pacific Division teams. Los Angeles (.679) and San Jose (.633) had better December records than the Stars.
*A sign of how competitive the West is: Only one team in the conference -- Columbus at 6-7-3 for a points percentage of .469 -- had a points percentage below .500 for the month of December.
*The Stars were 7-2-2 in the first games of the month and 1-3-1 in the final five games.
*The Stars were 4-3-2 at home in the month but 0-3-1 in their last four at the AAC.
*The Stars were 4-2-1 on the road, including 4-0-0 over their last four away from home.
*The Stars averaged 2.50 goals per game during December, ranking 21st in the league. They averaged 2.33 goals per game in nine home games.
*They scored 21 goals in nine home games, including 12 at even strength, eight on the power play and one shorthanded.
*They allowed 2.81 goals against per game, which ranked 15th among the NHL's 30 teams.
*The Stars had a team save percentage of 91.1 during the month, which was tied for 14th in the NHL.
*The Stars' power play was 8-32 (25.0%) at home in the month and 4-31 (12.9%) on the road for a total of 19.0 percent for the month.
*The Stars were 52-65 (80.0%) on the penalty kill in November.
*The Stars were outscored 29-25 during 5-on-5 play during the month.
*The Stars won 453 of 945 faceoffs for a 47.9 win percentage.
*Loui Eriksson led the Stars in points (16) and assists (10) in December. His 16 points were tied for 10th in the NHL during the month.
*Eriksson and Brad Richards tied for the team lead with six goals in the month.
*Brenden Morrow and Mike Ribeiro led the way in power-play goal scoring with three each.
*Eriksson led the Stars with seven power-play points (2 goals, 5 assists) in December.
*Karlis Skrastins and Mark Fistric were tops in defensemen goal scoring with two each.
*Stephane Robidas was tops in defensemen points with 8 (1 goal, 7 assists).
*Kari Lehtonen was 3-3-3 in December with a 2.84 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. Andrew Raycroft was 5-2-0 with 2.43 goals-against average and a .923 save percentage.
*Defensemen Jeff Woywitka and Trevor Daley were the team leaders in plus/minus, each finishing with a plus-4 in 16 games for the month.
*Richards, Toby Petersen and Nicklas Grossman were all a minus-5 for the month.
*Steve Ott led the Stars with 57 penalty minutes in December. Krys Barch was second with 22 penalty minutes.
