DALLAS -- Stars defenseman Mark Fistric is expected to miss at least one week with an abdominal strain. He was injured in Tuesday's 4-3 shootout win over Phoenix.
"It will be a week for so for sure, and then after that it will be day-to-day," Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said of Fistric's status.
With Fistric out, Adam Pardy will come in and be paired with Trevor Daley on the blue line.
The Canucks will be without left wing Daniel Sedin, who was knocked out of last night's game after he took an elbow to the head from Chicago defenseman Duncan Keith. Sedin is heading back to Vancouver this afternoon for further evaluation, according to a team official.
Kari Lehtonen is in net for the Stars. Cory Schneider is the likely starter for the Canucks.

FRISCO -- Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn said he is feeling fine after taking a couple of hard hits in Tuesday night's 4-3 shootout win over Phoenix at American Airlines Center.
"Feeling fine, normal," Benn said.
The first hit came when Phoenix captain Shane Doan caught in him in the head with an elbow. Doan, who received an elbowing minor during the game for the hit, faces possible suspension. He has a disciplinary hearing with the league later this afternoon. Benn was asked if he was disappointed with Doan's hit.
"No, it's hockey. It's so fast out there, things happen," Benn said. "I'll let the league deal with it."
Benn also was shaken up in overtime when he was hit hard into the boards by Phoenix's Antoine Vermette. Benn received some assistance in the tunnel leading to the locker room, but returned in time for the shootout.
"It was a tough play. I was tripped into the boards and slid in there," Benn said. "It was a little bit of a scramble. I fell into the boards pretty hard, got up and toe-picked (fell donw) and skated off."
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said Benn will be fine for Thursday's game against Vancouver.
Defenseman Mark Fistric is out for Thurday's game with abdominal strain. He left the game in the second period and did not return.
"Fisty is out. He's a got a little ab strain. He's going to be a day-to-day guy. He's a little sore today," Gulutzan said. "Pards (Adam Pardy) will come in tomorrow."
The Stars held an optional skate today. Goalies Kari Lehtonen and Richard Bachman were both on the ice along with Pardy, Philip Larsen, Toby Petersen, Ryan Garbutt, Tomas Vincour and Jordie Benn.

The Dallas Stars ran their winning streak to six games and their points streak to 11 (10-0-1) with a 1-0 victory at Minnesota on Tuesday night. Kari Lehtonen stopped 25 shots for his second consecutive shutout and fourth of the season. Jamie Benn scored the lone goal for the Stars, who won their sixth straight game on the road.
First period

The Stars outshot the Wild 10-8 in the first period, but there weren’t a lot of quality chances. Wild goalie Matt Hackett had nice stops on a close-range bid by Adam Pardy and stopped a close-in rebound attempt by Michael Ryder.
The Wild had the period’s only power play, and Lehtonen made a great save on a Dany Heatley shot from the top of the crease.
Second period
Both teams had nine shots in the second period, but again no scoring. Both goaltenders had sharp saves in the second.
Lehtonen made a nice stop on Erik Christensen and then Kyle Brodziak’s rebound attempt.
Hackett had key saves on Tom Wandell, Mike Ribeiro and Loui Eriksson.
Both teams were 0-2 on the power play, and there was a lot of four-on-four play in the period, as well.
Third period
The Stars killed off a 1:18 Wild power play early in the second and then scored the game’s only goal at even strength.
Off the rush, Brenden Morrow set up Jamie Benn, who roofed a shot over Hackett at the 3:46 mark of the second period.
Lehtonen stopped eight shots in the third, none bigger than a save on a point blank shot Brodziak with 3.2 seconds remaining in the game.

DALLAS -- Brenden Morrow and Steve Ott both will be in the lineup tonight when the Dallas Stars take on the Anaheim Ducks at American Airlines Center.
Morrow has missed the last 18 games with neck and back issues. He's expected to play on a line with Ott and Jamie Benn, and Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said they'll ease Morrow back into things.
"We're going to manage his minutes," Gulutzan said. "Probably between 10 and 12, or 10 and 14, somewhere in there for the first game in five-and-a-half weeks."
Ott missed the last game with back spasms, but said he felt fine after going through Saturday morning's skate.
"It feels good," Ott said. "I finally got it to loosen up with a lot of rehab over the past couple days."
With Ott and Morrow both returning, the Stars will have to scratch three forwards. Gulutzan said Toby Petersen will be one of the scratches, but the others would be game-time decisions.
With Sheldon Souray out with a lower body injury, Adam Pardy will be back in the lineup. He's expected to be paired with Philip Larsen. The other defensive pairings will be Alex Goligoski-Stephane Robidas and Mark Fistric-Trevor Daley.

FRISCO, Texas -- Stars defenseman Sheldon Souray will miss Saturday's game against Anaheim with a lower body injury. Souray left Thursday night's shootout win over San Jose in the second period with the injury and did not return.
"He's a little sore today. He won't be a game player for tomorrow," Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. "I'd say he's 50-50 for the Tuesday-Wednesday games (at Minnesota and Winnipeg)."
Steve Ott, who missed Thursday night's game with back spasms, is questionable for Saturday.
"We'll see after the morning skate," Gulutzan said.
Brenden Morrow, who has missed the last 18 games with neck/back issue, took part in Friday's optional skate. He's getting closer to returning, but whether he'll play Saturday is up in the air.
"Right now it's one day at a time. I got a good skate in today. I'll see how I feel when I wake up tomorrow," Morrow said. "I think tomorrow is questionable. If I don't get in there tomorrow, I am expected in Minnesota at least."
Morrow will skate with the team Saturday morning and determination on his status will be made then.
"I think we'll see after the morning skate where he is at," Gulutzan said. "Brenden and I are going to talk here shortly to see where he is at. I would say Tuesday Brenden is for sure and tomorrow, we'll see after the morning skate."
Defenseman Mark Fistric, who left Thursday's game early in the third period, is fine, according to Gulutzan.
"He'll be a game player tomorrow," Gulutzan said.
The players taking part in the optional skate today were Morrow, Kari Lehtonen, Richard Bachman, Jake Dowell, Tomas Vincour, Ryan Garbutt, Toby Petersen and Adam Pardy.
Lehtonen will start in goal tomorrow.

FRISCO, Texas -- Stars captain Brenden Morrow, who has missed the 14 games, with neck and back issues, resumed skating in Frisco on Thursday. It was the first time Morrow has been on the ice since he went out of the lineup in early February.
"Progressing pretty good," Morrow said after coming off the ice. "This is the first skate in about three weeks and so far no pain. I guess that’s a good sign."
Morrow hasn't played since Feb. 2 at San Jose. He's been doing off-ice work on the neck and back issues.
"It hasn’t been fun. It’s been a real strict core regimen to help stabilize the spine and try to relieve the stress on certain joints that I guess were causing me some problems," Morrow said. "It hasn’t been fun, but the guys have been playing well and that makes it a lot easier."
Morrow skated on his own Thursday at one end of the rink during the Stars' optional practice in Frisco. He also took part in a shootout drill at the end of practice. He said it's going to take some time before he's ready to play in a game.
"I am nowhere near game shape. It’s probably going to be a week or so before I am in any action," Morrow said. "It’s going to be skating and different movements that my body hasn’t been in and make sure I am not causing any pain and then we’ll start getting in some practices, getting bumped around a bit. I’ll take it slow at the beginning and then ramp it up before getting into a game."
Practice notes
*Besides Brenden Morrow, other players on the ice in Frisco on Thursday morning included Richard Bachman, Philip Larsen, Tom Wandell, Ryan Garbutt, Toby Petersen, Adam Pardy, Tomas Vincour and Jake Dowell.
*Morrow and Dowell (broken finger) will not travel with the team, and will continue to skate in Frisco.

Adam Pardy hopes to make up for lost time

FRISCO -- This season hasn’t gone the way Adam Pardy was expecting. Pardy, who signed a two-year, $ 4 million contract with the Dallas Stars as a free agent in July, has been scratched more times than he has been in the lineup.
But he was in the lineup Thursday night against Calgary. It was his first game for the Stars in more than a month. In between there were 13 healthy scratches and a two-game conditioning stint in the American Hockey League.
“It’s been tough. It’s been a long year. I haven’t had a lot of games,” said Pardy. “It’s been frustrating in a sense. It’s been tough to get in the lineup, so it was nice to get out there and feel good on the ice and go make a step forward.”
Thursday’s game was Pardy’s 23rd of the season. He logged 15:58 of ice time, was a plus-one, had two hits and one blocked shot.
“I thought he came in and played a really good game. For not playing for a while and coming in, I think it was a good scenario for him to come in against his old team,” Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said after the game. “It kind of amped him up and it’s a good way to get your foot back in the lineup. That’s the Pardy that we’re accustomed to seeing. I hope he’s just going to keep moving from there.”
The 27-year-old Pardy, who has one assist and a minus-seven rating this season and has been scratched a total of 29 times, knows that he needs to keep moving forward.
“I know consistency is the key right now. Anyone can have one good game. Anyone can do that,” Pardy said. “It’s just a matter of making sure that (Saturday) night that I bring the same effort and the same composure, the same things I need to be effective.”
Pardy was in the lineup Thursday because the Stars traded Nicklas Grossman to Philadelphia and Sheldon Souray is still out with a foot injury. The Stars have six healthy defensemen, and that means opportunity is knocking for Pardy.
“It is an opportunity to solidify himself in this lineup,” said Gulutzan. “I thought he played very good (Thursday) night and he needs to build on that and keep going.”
And the opportunity isn’t lost on Pardy.
“It’s funny how this game changes, everything can change in the blink of an eye. Last week I was down there (in the AHL on conditioning assignment) and this week I am up here playing again, back in the lineup,” Pardy said. “The way it looks right now I am in there and it’s an opportunity to make up for a lost year I guess, to make up for lost time.”
Garbutt gets the call
With Jamie Benn out at the least the next two games with a cut on his leg, the Stars have called up forward Ryan Garbutt from the Texas Stars of the AHL.
The 26-year-old Garbutt, who has 16 goals and 17 assists in 50 games for Texas, was never drafted and started his pro career in the Central Hockey League.
“It’s pretty exciting. I got the call (Thursday) night at about 10 o’clock and it was pretty tough to fall asleep,” Garbutt said. “It seems like a long journey. It’s been a lot of hard work.”
Notes
*Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said Jamie Benn will miss Saturday’s game at Phoenix and didn’t think Benn would be ready for Sunday’s game versus Nashville. Gulutzan said he is hopeful Benn can play Tuesday at Montreal.
*Benn was at the Stars practice facility in Frisco Friday, walking around on crutches. Benn said it took 13 stitches to close the cut, which he suffered during Thursday night’s game when Flames defenseman Mark Giordano’s skate caught him on the left leg.
“I just went to go hit the guy, he kept the puck in, I kind of fell and his skate cut the back of my leg. It was a little bit of a freak accident,” Benn said. “You just hope it’s not too bad. It was bleeding pretty good there right when it happened. I tried to hobble off pretty quick and the doctors did a good job of stitching me up.”

FRISCO -- Stars forward Jamie Benn will be out at least the next two games after being cut on the leg with a skate in Thursday’s 3-2 overtime win against the Calgary Flames at American Airlines Center.
Benn was at the Stars practice facility on Friday, walking around on crutches.
“It’s a little unlucky, but lucky at the same time. It didn’t damage it too bad. I am going to get back on rehab here and I hope to be back soon,” Benn said.
Benn was injured in the second period of Thursday’s game when Flame’s defenseman Mark Giordano’s skate caught Benn in the left thigh.
Benn said he received around 13 stitches to close the injury.
As for his status, Benn replied: “Day-to-day. We’ll just see how it goes.”
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said Benn will miss Saturday’s game at Phoenix and then Sunday’s game against Nashville at the AAC. The hope is could be ready after that.
“We’re hoping on Tuesday (at Montreal). He’s got a significant cut on his leg,” Gulutzan said. “Thank goodness nothing else was involved, just a deep significant, painful cut. We’re glad nothing else happened for sure, but he’ll be a day-to-day guy until that heals up.”

Nieuwendyk talks Grossman trade

Here are some quotes from Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk on today's trade that sent defenseman Nicklas Grossman to the Philadelphia Flyers for a 2012 second-round pick and a 2013 third-round.
On Grossman
“I’ll start by thanking Nick Grossman for all his years of service here in a Dallas Stars uniform. He was a drafted player and developed through the system and has just been a tremendous pro all these years and been a good teammate. So, that’s the part that makes it difficult. But he’s a quality person and we wish him luck.”
On the impetus for the trade
“Well, obviously when guys have contracts and they’re nearing their end, you make decisions on going forward. I think as an organization, we felt that we have some depth at that position now, which we hadn’t had in previous years and made the decision to make the deal that we did in order to give not only Mark Fistric more of an opportunity but to get Adam Pardy going and we have some kids that are knocking on the door as well.”
Were there any contract extension talks with Grossman
“We had initial talks. I think a few months ago, three months ago but we didn’t have any after that to be honest with you. We kind of watched our team and watched how we were unfolding and made the decision that this was the best thing for us moving forward.”
On if this deal signifies the Stars will be sellers at the deadline instead of buyers
“Well, I don’t really like the term and I know everyone wants to talk about that. I just think today is an isolated case and it shows that we’re going to be active. We’re going to look at things that make our hockey club better going forward and if things present themselves that do that, we’ll take a strong look at it. But I think it just shows today that this is not an indication that we’re going to be sellers. This is an indication that we’re going to be active and listen to everybody.”

As far as regular season games go, tonight’s Stars-Red Wings game in Detroit has some special meaning. The Red Wings are going for an NHL-record 21st consecutive home win. The significance of the game isn’t lost on Stars forward Steve Ott.
“Love is in the air. It’s Valentine’s Day. They have a chance to do something very special over there and we have a chance to knock them off,” Ott said. “For us, it probably amps up the game a little bit more in an 82-game regular season. It’s more of a playoff type format, rather just a regular old regular season game.”
Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said it’s a good challenge for his team, and an opportunity.
“It’s real good for us. It puts us in a position where we need to come and play at the top of our game and try to do something the last 20 teams haven’t been able to do,” Gulutzan said. “If we come and play our game and have some success, it will be a great boost for us.”
Jake Dowell will be in the Dallas lineup tonight and Toby Petersen will be the scratch at forward. Sheldon Souray is still out, so it will be the same six on defense and Adam Pardy will be a scratch.
Kari Lehtonen is in goal for the Stars. Joey MacDonald will get the start for the Red Wings.
Here’s the Stars’ projected lineup:
Ott-Benn-Vincour
Eriksson-Ribeiro-Ryder
Nystrom-Fiddler-Dvorak
Dowell-Wandell-Burish
Goligoski-Robidas
Grossman-Daley
Fistric-Larsen
Lehtonen

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan is shuffling his lines a bit for tonight's game in Columbus and that means an opportunity for right wing Tomas Vincour, who will move up into the top six and play with Jamie Benn and Steve Ott.
"It’s an opportunity for him. The message isn’t score our you’re going to get moved. The message is play the way we want you to, play your tail off and see what we can do," said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan.
Vincour has one goal and two assists in 20 games with the Stars this season, but he has scored when in the minors, registering 11 goals in 18 games with the Texas Stars of the AHL.
"At some point Tomas Vincour is going to score in the NHL. We just hope it is sooner than later," Gulutzan said.
Michael Ryder, who has been playing with Benn and Ott, is expected to lineup with Mike Ribeiro and Loui Eriksson tonight. Eric Nystrom will move back to a line with Vernon Fiddler and Radek Dvorak.
Tonight's a big game for the Stars, who have been lackluster since the All-Star break. Gulutzan said at this points it's up to the players to recognize what's at stake.
"We have to prepare them for the game, but the players have to get up and play it," Gulutzan said. "Most coaches aren't motivating for 82 games. You prepare for 82 games, you get them ready and there are different points of the season, but this is one where that motivation has to come from within."
Kari Lehtonen is in goal tonight.
Gulutzan said he'll probably go with Richard Bachman tomorrow night in Buffalo.
The defense will remain the same as the past few games.
Mark Fistric, Jake Dowell and Adam Pardy appear to be the scratches for tonight's game.
Pardy was recalled from his conditioning assignment in the AHL today. He had four assists in two games with the Texas Stars, including three last night in a 6-3 victory over Milwaukee.

FRISCO -- With the Dallas Stars about to kick out a key part of their schedule, coach Glen Gulutzan is trying to balance pushing and prodding his team to raise its level of play, and keeping the message positive at the same time.
After Saturday’s 2-1 shootout victory over the Minnesota Wild, Gulutzan‘s demeanor wasn’t exactly upbeat. He was not pleased with some elements of his team’s performance.
Gulutzan was happy with the win, which cut into the Wild’s lead over the Stars in the standings, but was irritated with his team’s first period, when they turned the puck over too much and gave Minnesota a few too many scoring chances. The stellar goaltending of Kari Lehtonen kept them out of trouble.
“We relied on our goalie a lot. We have to be better. We have to be better,” Gulutzan said after Saturday’s game. “I’m ecstatic about the two points and it’s going to help us, but we have a different level we need to get to.”
Monday, after looking at some video and talking to some of his players, Gulutzan had a different outlook on things.
“The most positive thing I got was from the video was that we played physical, and some guys had some good games. The positive thing I took from today in talking to Benny (Jamie Benn) and (Eric) Nystrom is how dead they were Saturday,” Gulutzan said. “When you hear it from a majority of your guys and your workers that they didn’t have much energy in them, but we came out physical and we played hard. Yeah, we turned some things over and it just goes to show you how important rest is. That three (games) in four (days) and travel to LA, they felt dead Saturday.
“I come away from it now thinking maybe that I shouldn’t have been, in my own mind and not to them, so down on them. I felt for the most part they worked that game and that’s all we can ask for.”
The Stars have won two of three since the All-Star break and three of their last four games overall. But in a 1-0 win over Anaheim just before the break and Saturday’s win over the Wild, Lehtonen was the reason the Stars got the two points. Lehtonen’s teammates know they have to ramp it up during a stretch where the Stars play 12 games in 20 days leading up to the trade deadline.
“We definitely need to play better than we have lately. We know how big these games are. This is the month we have to start winning and play real well,” said Stars forward Loui Eriksson. “The last game we had too many turnovers early and gave them too many chances. We have to clean that up, the turnovers and just overall play I think.”
The Stars' next four games are against Phoenix, Columbus, Buffalo and Los Angeles. Phoenix and Los Angeles are two teams the Stars are battling for those final two playoff spots in the West. Columbus and Buffalo are two teams who are out of the playoff picture.
"This is a big stretch for us. The next three, four games are games we’ve got to have," said defenseman Alex Goligoski "We know we have a tough month coming up schedule-wise. Realistically this month is going to make or break us. We’ve got to go on a little run here and pick up points in all these games."
And that's why right now is good time for the Stars to get their game in order. Gulutzan said getting the level of play up at this point of the season is the like the season itself – it’s a grind. But he and his team have to keep plugging away if they want to climb up the standings and into the top eight in Western Conference.
“It’s millimeters now. You just have to keep pushing and coaxing and encouraging. That’s your job as a coach,” Gulutzan said. “Not so much asking for more, but just keep heaving up in different directions. Heave up one side that might be sagging a little bit, just keep pushing the team forward. But you have to stay positive because these are grinds. It doesn’t get easier if you’re negative all the time. You’ve got to look for push and good things.”

*Brenden Morrow is expected miss the next three games with neck/shoulder problems. Morrow will miss Tuesday’s game and then isn’t expected to be on the Stars’ upcoming two-game road trip to Columbus and Buffalo.
*The Stars sent defenseman Adam Pardy to the Texas Stars on a conditioning assignment. Pardy will play games with Texas on Tuesday and Wednesday and then is scheduled to rejoin Dallas in Columbus on Thursday.

Dallas Stars defenseman Adam Pardy, who has been a healthy scratch the last 10 games, is heading to the AHL on a conditioning assignment.
Pardy will play two games with the Texas Stars, who play Milwaukee Tuesday and Wednesday, and then is scheduled to rejoin Dallas in Columbus on Thursday.
Pardy, who signed a two-year, $4 million contract in July, has one assist and a minus-eight rating in 22 games with Dallas this season. He has been a healthy scratch in 25 games.

DALLAS -- Stars center Mike Ribeiro, who has missed the last seven games with a knee injury, will return to the lineup tonight when the Dallas Stars take on the Anaheim Ducks at American Airlines Center.
"He's ready to go tonight," said Stars coach Glen Gulutzan. "He's had three days of skating and he's a pretty quick healer. He's a game player tonight."
Ribeiro is expected to center a line with Loui Eriksson and Michael Ryder.
Matt Fraser, called up from the AHL on Sunday, will make his NHL debut tonight. Fraser, who ranks fourth in the AHL in goal scoring (21 in 40 games) is expected to play on a line with Jake Dowell and Tomas Vincour.
"He's an All-Star in the American Hockey League, he's got a great shot," said Gulutzan. "He's a high quality, character guy. He has the ability to score and we thought we'd give him a chance, especially with our goal scoring. We haven't scored much lately."
The Stars will go with the same six defensemen as last game, meaning Mark Fistric and Adam Pardy will be scratches on the defense.

FRISCO -- Stars center Mike Ribeiro will miss his third straight game with a knee injury when the Dallas Stars play the Colorado Avalanche Saturday afternoon at American Airlines Center.
"Ribs is still sore. He's got a significant injury there. He hasn't started riding the bike yet. He'll be at least a few more days," Stars coach Glen Gulutzan said. "You can expect him quicker than somebody else because that's the way Ribby is, but he has a significant injury and he is going to be out a few more days."
Ribeiro was injured last Saturday in a knee-on-knee collision with Edmonton's Theo Peckham.
Goalie Kari Lehtonen is doing fine after suffering a bruise on his tailbone late in last night's game against the Kings. Gulutzan said there is no final decision on a starting goaltender for Saturday, but most likely it will be Lehtonen.
"We'll make that decision this afternoon. If he's fine and healthy he'll most likely get the start for tomorrow," Gulutzan said.
Defenseman Philip Larsen (concussion) and right wing Tomas Vincour (knee) are both skating and could be about a week away, according to Gulutzan.
The Stars got back from LA early this morning and have an afternoon game against the Avalanche tomorrow, so it was an optional skate in Frisco today.
"It's going to be interesting to see tomorrow," said Gulutzan. 'We're doing our best to manage it through today. If some guys want to go on the ice and shoot some pucks they can and other guys come in here and stretch."
Just a handful a players were out on the ice and some were out at different times. Vernon Fiddler shot pucks at Richard Bachman. Adam Pardy, Toby Petersen and Eric Nystrom came out of the ice later. Jamie Benn skated on his own.
