Matt Fraser sets franchise mark for goals in season

Texas Stars forward Matt Fraser has set the franchise mark for most goals in a season. When Fraser scored shorthanded against San Antonio on Saturday, it was his 28th of the season. That eclipsed the club record of 27 set by Aaron Gagnon in the 2009-10 season.

Fraser, who is on a three-game goal scoring streak and has eight goals in the last 14 games, now has 29 goals in 58 games this season.

The past week

The Texas Stars went 2-2-0-0 over the past week. The Stars are 27-30-2-2 on the season and rank 15th in the AHL’s Western Conference. They are currently 12 points out of the final playoff spot with 15 games left in the regular season.

Texas beat Grand Rapids 5-4 in overtime last Wednesday at Cedar Park Center. Francis Wathier, Travis and Luke Gazdic were among the goal scorers. Brenden Dillon had two assists. Tyler Beskorowany made 31 saves.

The Stars beat San Antonio 4-3 in overtime at CPC on Friday. Colton Sceviour scored the OT winner. Matt Fraser scored the game-tying goal with 7:08 left in regulation. Andrew Raycroft had 25 saves.

Texas lost to San Antonio 4-3 in Cedar Park on Saturday. Fraser, Wathier and Angelo Esposito scored for Texas. Raycroft started the game but left after the first period due to injury. He allowed two goals on nine shots. Beskorowany finished the game and stopped 11 of 13 shots.

The Stars lost 5-2 to Grand Rapids on Tuesday. Fraser and Dillon scored goals. Beskorowany had 22 saves on 27 shots.

The past week

The Texas Stars lost two of three (1-2-0-0) over the past week. Texas is now 24-27-2-2 on the season. Texas ranks 15th in the AHL’s Western Conference and is 11 points out of the final playoff spot.

Texas opened the week with a 5-1 loss at Oklahoma City on Wednesday. It was the seventh straight road loss for the Stars. Jordie Benn scored the lone goal for Texas. Andrew Raycroft was pulled in the second period after allowing four goals on 18 shots. It was the second time in the last three starts that Raycroft has been pulled. Tyler Beskorowany stopped 16 of 17 shots in relief.

The Stars beat Houston 3-2 at Cedar Park Center on Friday. Scott Glennie had one goal and one assist, and Angelo Esposito and Francis Wathier also scored. Beskorowany made 39 saves.

Houston beat the Stars 5-2 Saturday in Cedar Park. Brenden Dillon and Colton Sceviour scored for Texas and Beskorowany stopped 32 of 37 shots.

The past week

The Texas Stars went 2-1-0-0 over the past week. The Stars are currently in 13th place in the AHL’s Western Conference, nine points out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

Texas opened the week with a 4-3 loss at Lake Erie on Wednesday. Scott Glennie and Francis Wathier each had one goal and one assist in the game. Colton Sceviour also scored a goal and Angelo Esposito had two assists. Tyler Beskorowany had 40 saves.

Texas won 5-4 in a shootout over San Antonio at Cedar Park Center on Friday. Matt Fraser scored twice for the Stars. Wathier also scored and Esposito picked up another two assists. Mike Hedden scored the lone goal of the shootout. Beskorowany made 28 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped all five shooters he faced in the shootout to get the victory and stop a personal five-game losing streak.

The Stars won 4-2 over San Antonio on Saturday at Cedar Park Center. Fraser, Sceviour, and Maxime Fortunus were among the goal scorers. Esposito picked up his fifth assist over the last three games. Andrew Raycroft stopped 24 of 26 shots to earn just his second win in the last seven starts.

The past week

The Texas Stars went 0-2-0-0 last week and are 20-22-1-2 on the season. They currently rank 15th in the AHL’s Western Conference, eight points out of the eighth and final playoff spot.

The Stars lost 3-1 at Houston on Thursday. Ryan Garbutt scored the lone Texas goal and Andrew Raycroft stopped 32 of 34 shots. It was Texas’ third straight loss.

On Saturday, the Stars saw their losing streak hit four games as they lost 4-3 to Charlotte at Cedar Park Center. Garbutt, Angelo Esposito and Travis Morin scored goals. Raycroft stopped 21 of 25 shots.

The past week

The Texas Stars went 0-2-0-0 over the past week. The Stars are 20-20-1-2 on the season. They rank 13th in the Western Conference, four points out the eighth and final playoff spot.

On Friday, the Stars had a three-game winning streak snapped with a 6-2 loss at San Antonio. Angelo Esposito had one goal and one assist and Tomas Vincour also scored for Texas. Andrew Raycroft got the start in goal and gave up five goals on 20 shots in 47:22 of playing time before being pulled in the third period. Tyler Beskorowany played the final 12:38 and stopped five of six shots.

On Saturday, the Stars lost 3-1 at Oklahoma City, which outshot Texas 45-23. Francis Wathier scored the lone goal for Texas and Vincour picked up an assist. Raycroft stopped 42 of 44 shots.

*Texas Stars forward Matt Fraser suited up for the Western Conference All-Stars at the AHL All-Star Classic in Atlantic City Monday night. Fraser had one assist and then scored in the shootout his Western Conference team beat the Eastern Conference 8-7 in a shootout.

*Fraser is tied for fourth in the AHL in goal scoring with 21 in 42 games. He is tied for fifth in rookie scoring with 35 points.

The Dallas Stars made a deal involving minor league players with the Florida Panthers Friday night. The Stars sent forward Ondrej Roman to Florida in exchange for center Angelo Esposito, a first round pick (20th overall) of Pittsburgh in 2007.

The Dallas Stars announced today that the club has traded left wing Ondrej Roman to the Florida Panthers in exchange for center Angelo Esposito.

Esposito, 22, has played in 16 games for the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League (AHL) this season, collecting two goals and three assists totaling five points and eight penalty minutes. Prior to his professional hockey career, Esposito spent parts of four seasons with the Quebec Ramparts and the Montreal Juniors of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). He scored the game-winning goal at the 2009 World Junior Championships to secure the gold medal for Team Canada. The 6-0, 190-pound forward from Montreal, QC was selected by Pittsburgh as the 20th overall pick in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Roman, 22, has spent the majority of the season with the Texas Stars, Dallas’ primary affiliate in the AHL collecting one goal and four assists totaling five points and four penalty minutes with the club. The 6-0, 185-pound forward was selected by Dallas in the fifth round (136th overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
