Most Beloved: Vote for Enamored Eight

March, 17, 2012
Who advanced and who didn't?

Sometimes, love hurts. And while some of your favorites -- Pudge Rodriguez, Michael Young, Mark Cuban, Jimmy Johnson, Ron Washington, Bob Lilly, Jason Witten and Josh Hamilton -- didn't make the cut, take a look at who's left!

Your voting determined our Enamored Eight, and now you have until Sunday to vote and decide who advances to the Fantastic Four of our Metroplex Most Beloved sports figure bracket.

It's much harder this time around. The matchups:

* No. 1 seed Roger Staubach vs. No. 9 Michael Irvin
* No. 4 Tom Landry vs. No. 5 Dirk Nowitzki
* No. 2 Emmitt Smith vs. No. 7 Mike Modano
* No. 3 Troy Aikman vs. No. 6 Nolan Ryan.

Choose wisely by voting here through Sunday. And join the discussion afterward.

Thursday afternoon tidbits

June, 16, 2011
A few Stars related tidbits this fine Thursday afternoon.

*ESPN The Magazine has released its 2011 Ultimate Standings, which "measure how much MLB, NBA, NFL and NHL franchises give back to the fans in exchange for all the time, money and emotion the fans invest in them."

The Stars rank 46th among the 122 franchises, up from 57th last year. The Stars are 14th among the 30 NHL franchises.

As for the other local pro teams, the Texas Rangers are 12th, the Dallas Mavericks are 29th and the Dallas Cowboys are 102nd. The standings were put together before the NBA playoffs, so the Mavericks' NBA championship wasn't factored into the rankings.

You can find the 2011 Ultimate Standings along with an explanation of the methodology here.

*Bodog is out with its odds to win the 2012 Stanley Cup and the Vancouver Canucks are the favorites at 5-1. The Dallas Stars are listed at 35-1, along with the Calgary Flames, Carolina Hurricanes and New York Rangers. The odds for all 30 teams are here.

*Texas Stars play-by-play man Josh Fisher has an interview with goaltender Richard Bachman, who has signed a one-year contract extension with Dallas. You can listen to that here.
