April, 10, 2012
As expected, the Dallas Stars did not win Tuesday's NHL Draft Lottery and will have the 13th pick in the NHL Draft, which will be held June 22-23 in Pittsburgh.

The Stars had a 0.8 percent chance of winning Tuesday's lottery, which was won by the Edmonton Oilers for the third straight year. The Oilers will pick first overall.

Here's the draft order for the first 14 spots. The rest of the order will be released after the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

1.) Edmonton
2.) Columbus
3.) Montreal
4.) NY Islanders
5.) Toronto
6.) Anaheim
7.) Minnesota
8.) Carolina
9.) Winnipeg
10.) Tampa Bay
11.) Washington (via COL)
12.) Buffalo
13.) Dallas
14.) Calgary
Now that the Stars have been eliminated from the playoff race, they are in mix for the NHL draft lottery, which will be held Tuesday.

The Stars are currently the 17th place team in the NHL, hold the 14th pick in the draft and have a 0.5 percent chance of winning the lottery and moving up four places. They can still move up in the lottery draft standings depending on how things go on the final day of the season.

The draft lottery standings are below.

Playoff watch

The playoff teams are set in both conferences now. The only question is the final seeding. The Stars and Colorado were both eliminated in the West last night, leaving Vancouver, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Nashville, Detroit, Chicago, San Jose and Phoenix.

In the East it’s the New York Rangers, Boston, Florida, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Ottawa and Washington.

Play of the night: Clowe’s stickwork from the bench

The play of the night had to be San Jose’s Ryane Clowe reaching out with his stick from the bench and breaking up a Los Angeles Kings rush. None of the officials saw it, so there was no call.

Stars likely to pick 14th in draft

April, 11, 2011
With the Dallas Stars finishing out of the playoffs they now head into the draft lottery, which will be held Tuesday.

The Stars’ current draft position is 14th and that’s where they’ll likely stay since they have almost no chance of winning the lottery and moving up four spots.

The draft lottery is Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT. It’s being carried TSN and will be simulcast on Versus here in the United States.

The 2011 NHL Entry Draft will be held in St. Paul, MN on June 24-25.
