The Dallas Stars’ winless streak at home hit five games (0-3-2) as they lost 3-2 in a shootout to the New York Rangers at American Airlines Center Friday night. Brian Sutherby and Mike Ribeiro scored in regulation for the Stars. Kari Lehtonen made 29 saves in the game and stopped one of two in the shootout. Mats Zuccarello scored the only goal of the shootout for the Rangers, who got goals from Ruslan Fedotenko and Artem Anisimov in regulation. Henrik Lundqvist made 28 saves in the game and stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout.
The Stars opened the scoring in the game at 7:55 of the period. Brandon Segal sent a pass from the corner to Brian Sutherby, who scored from the bottom of the right circle.
Both teams had 10 shots in the period. Both Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen and Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist had some sharp saves in the period.
Both teams were 0-1 on the power play.
Jamie Langenbrunner, acquired from New Jersey for a conditional draft pick earlier in the day, was a scratch for the Stars.
Matt Niskanen, Toby Petersen and Karlis Skrastins were out with injuries.
The Stars got their second power play of the game one minute into the second period, but it was the Rangers that scored to tie the game at 1-1. Ruslan Fedotenko skated down the right side and beat Kari Lehtonen with a shot from a sharp angle at the 2:49 mark.
The Stars got another power play later in the period and this time they cashed in, but not before the Rangers had another quality shorthanded chance. This time Lehtonen made a sharp save on a Brandon Prust shot from the left circle. With just seconds remaining in the power play Loui Eriksson got to a puck behind the net and backhanded it to Mike Ribeiro, who scored at the 10:20 mark to give the Stars a 2-1 lead.
The Rangers tied the game at 8:04 of the third period with a power play goal. Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist sent a long pass to Marc Staal, who set up Artem Anisimov, who scored off a wrist shot from the slot.
After a scoreless overtime, the game went to a shootout where New York’s Mats Zuccarello scored the only goal to give New York the win.
