Former Rangers manager is in Hall of Fame
INDIANAPOLIS -- OK, Whitey Herzog's managerial career isn't exactly linked with the Rangers. But he did manage in Texas for 138 games in 1973.
Herzog was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee. Herzog led the Kansas City Royals to three consecutive AL West titles (1976-78) and managed the World Series Champion Cardinals in 1982 and also took St. Louis to the World Series in 1985 and 1987. He received 14 of 16 votes from the committee.
In Texas, Herzog took over for Ted Williams at the start of the club's second season in Arlington. But Herzog never made it through the 1973 season. He was fired after going 47-91 and replaced by Billy Martin.
