Ryan not surprised by AL West activity
ARLINGTON -- It was tough not to ask Rangers president Nolan Ryan about the ownership situation. And you can click here to read all about that. But he did briefly talk about the AL West.
The last 10 days has seen a flurry of activity within the division. Seattle is close to a deal to get Cliff Lee, according to several reports. They already have Chone Figgins. The Angels picked up Hideki Matsui, who could be the club's DH or play the outfield.
Ryan did not seem surprised by all the moves made in the AL West.
"We knew Seattle was going to be very competitive in the offseason, and the Angels, obviously, were going to be too," Ryan said. "We felt like we needed to be as aggressive as we could be. We feel good about what we've done so far. We think there's a couple of other things pending that could make a difference for us."
Ryan is likely referring to the proposed Mike Lowell trade. The teams have agreed to the framework of a deal, but it is not done yet. Lowell is expected to have a physical with the Rangers at some point this week.
