SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Just in case anyone was wondering how critical the utility infield spot is, Ian Kinsler's injury is a reminder.

Kinsler is out at least a week with a high right ankle sprain. He is confident he'll be back and playing games before spring training is over so he's ready for the season. But if this happened during the regular season, the Rangers would have to rely on someone to come in and produce while Kinsler was sidelined.

That person was supposed to be Khalil Greene, but he didn't report to camp. The Rangers are hoping Joaquin Arias can step up and seize that role, but they'll look at external options as well.

Kinsler's injury just reinforces how important that particular player is to this team.
