Feldman, working on his off-speed stuff, allowed the leadoff batter to get on in his first three innings, but pitched out of jams. He had runners and first and second with no outs in the first and struck out Milton Bradley, got Ken Griffey Jr. to ground out and Lopez to fly out.
He allowed a single to Casey Kotchman, but Elvis Andrus made a nice grab in the hole to start a double play and Chris Davis reached over the railing to snag a foul pop to end the inning.
A double and single to start the third brought in Seattle's first run with no outs. Feldman then got some help on a diving grab by Julio Borbon in center, then struck out Bradley and got Griffey to pop up.
So while he didn't have his best command (his outing started with eight straight balls), Feldman showed some grit to limit the damage.
"I want to get through my innings and I was able to do that," Feldman said. "I got a good feel for my off-speed stuff."
Feldman said he wants to improve his first-pitch strikes and getting ahead of more hitters. But he was also happy that he worked out of trouble and was able to settle himself down.
