The Rangers acquired yet another infielder on Thursday, picking up Ryan Garko from Seattle on a waiver claim. Here's the release from the Rangers:

Surprise, Ariz. – The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has acquired infielder Ryan Garko (#25) from Seattle on a waiver claim. The team has also optioned catcher Max Ramirez to Oklahoma City (AAA).

Garko, 29, was signed by Seattle on Feb. 1. He spent his entire professional career in the Cleveland organization before a trade to San Francisco on July 27, 2009. He combined to hit .268 with 13 home runs and 51 RBI in 118 games with the Indians and Giants last season. He appeared in 15 games for Seattle this spring, batting .220 with a home run, 2 doubles, and 4 RBI.

A career .279 hitter in the major leagues, the right-handed batter has been primarily a first baseman for the past several years. He also played 12 games in the outfield for Cleveland in 2009. He appeared in the 2007 ALDS and ALCS with Cleveland, combining to bat .314 (11-35) in a postseason in which the Indians nearly made it to the World Series. He was originally selected by Cleveland in the 3rd round of the 2003 June draft.

With the addition of Garko, the Rangers now have a full 40-man roster, a figure which does not include protected players Omar Beltre and Alexi Ogando.
