MLB bans Volquez for 50 games

Cincinnati pitcher Edinson Volquez, traded to the Reds from the Rangers before the 2008 season as part of the deal that brought Josh Hamilton to Texas, has received a 50-game suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs, MLB announced today.

The suspension begins Wednesday, April 21. Volquez was on the 60-day disabled list following Tommy John surgery.
