Mound matchup: Harden vs. Peavy

ARLINGTON -- In the second game of this three-game set, Rangers RHP Rich Harden takes on RHP Jake Peavy. Let's take a brief look at the matchup:

Harden (0-1, 4.58 ERA): He's still looking for his first win of the season and a start where he has command the whole way. Harden has more walks -- 18 -- than innings pitched -- 17 2/3. He has three starts of 4 1/3 innings or less this season. Harden threw 99 pitches in 4 1/3 innings against Detroit in his last start. He gave up two runs on four walks and five strikeouts, but his pitch count didn't allow him to go very deep in the game. The Rangers are paying Harden $6.5 million and want to stay as patient as they can with him. What they want to see tonight is Harden get through six innings and give the bullpen a bit of a break.

Peavy (0-1, 7.66 ERA): Peavy is winless for the first four starts of the season for the first time in his nine-year career. Walks were the problem in his last start. He had seven of them against Tampa Bay, to go along with seven hits and seven runs in just 4 1/3 innings. Peavy has 15 walks and 15 strikeouts on the season and has pitched more than 6 innings just once in his first four starts. This will be his third road start of the season. Peavy, who came to the White Sox as part of a trade with San Diego at last year's trade deadline, has never faced the Rangers.

Hitters: Peavy has faced just three Texas hitters and all have had success in limited at-bats -- Matt Treanor (3-for-8, 3 RBIs), Vladimir Guerrero (2-for-5) and Josh Hamilton (2-for-4). Most of the White Sox batters that have stepped in against Harden have struggled. Paul Konerko, who leads the AL with 8 homers, is 1-for-15 against Harden. A.J. Pierzynski is 0-for-11 and Alex Rios is 2-for-11.
