HOUSTON -- The Astros gambled with the Rangers' No. 5 hitter and it cost them on Sunday.
Josh Hamilton hit a game-tying single in the top of the ninth. Astros closer Matt Lindstrom could have walked Hamilton and pitched to Justin Smoak, who is 7-for-13 with two home runs in the series.
Instead, Hamilton's single to center scored Ian Kinsler, who reached on a single and he later stole second to get into scoring position. Hamilton has driven in a major league high 24 runs this month. He has 51 on the season.
With the game tied at 4-4, the Rangers had a chance to get more runs, but with the bases loaded against Lindstrom, pinch hitter Craig Gentry popped out to first to end the inning.
The Rangers left 14 runners on base through nine innings.
