ARLINGTON, Texas -- On this July 4, much of the talk around baseball is about the All-Star Game as the rosters were announced today. Five Rangers made the club and Michael Young is one of five players vying for fan votes to be the final one selected into the game. Some more interesting tidbits on the Rangers and the All-Star participants:

* The five overall All-Stars match a team record set in 2004 (Hank Blalock, Francisco Cordero, Kenny Rogers, Alfonso Soriano and Michael Young).

* The four position players selected tie the club mark set in 2008 (Milton Bradley, Josh Hamilton, Ian Kinsler and Michael Young).

* This is the third time the Rangers have had two players elected to start an All-Star Game in fan balloting. They also did so in 1998 (Pudge Rodriguez and Juan Gonzalez) and 2001 (Pudge Rodriguez and Alex Rodriguez).

* Vladimir Guerrero has earned his 9th All-Star selection, his first since 2007. He is 5-for-18 with a homer (2006) in eight All-Star Games. He is a starter for the sixth time (2004-2007 for the Angels and 2002 for the Expos).

* Josh Hamilton is a starter for the third consecutive year. That makes him the third Ranger ever to earn a starting spot in more than one All-Star Game, joining Pudge Rodriguez (9 times from 1992-2001) and Alex Rodriguez (3 from 2001-03). He's 2-for-6 with an RBI in his two previous starts.

* RHP Neftali Feliz is the third Rangers rookie ever selected as an All-Star, joining catcher Jim Sundberg (1974) and Jeff Zimmerman (1999).

* SS Elvis Andrus (21 years, 10 months) and Feliz (22 years, 2 months), both selected to the All-Star Game after finishing second in the player/manager/coaches voting at their positions, are the second- and third-youngest Texas All-Stars ever behind Pudge Rodriguez (20 years, 8 months) in 1992.

* Andrus is the fifth Rangers shortstop to earn an All-Star spot. The others: Toby Harrah (1975-76), Bert Campaneris (1977), Alex Rodriguez (2001-03) and Michael Young (2004-08).

* The Rangers have had at least two All-Star selections in seven of the last eight years beginning in 2003.
