Laird welcomes old team with home run

Former Rangers catcher Gerald Laird struck the first blow in Detroit, hitting a two-run shot off Colby Lewis to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the second.

The Rangers wasted a leadoff triple by Michael Young in the fourth, failing to capitalize with Ian Kinsler, Vladimir Guerrero and Josh Hamilton.

Detroit starter Max Scherzer is doing a good job keeping Rangers batters at bay, striking out three and allowing three hits through four.
