Clubhouse notes: Rotation change
Hunter last pitched in Sunday's 6-4 win to end their four-game set with the Angels, and the move gives the Rangers flexibility to pitch Rich Harden on Saturday if they so choose.
On Thursday, Washington said the team still has not made a decision on Harden.
"We still haven't gotten everybody together yet," Washington said. "It's been pretty busy in that front office."
Washington also acknowledged it was possible the Rangers may move either Harden or Feldman to the bullpen.
Other notes:
* Ian Kinsler's left groin strain that put him on the DL has been a lingering injury.
Washington said Kinsler had been playing hurt for three days, but after some soreness Wednesday he decided to get an MRI. If the situation were different, Washington said Kinsler could have played through the injury.
"He probably could wrap it and go play," Washington said. "But this is too important... We don't want to get caught down the stretch like we did last year without Michael [Young,] without [Josh] Hamilton and without [Ian] Kinsler."
In the meantime, Washington said Joaquin Arias and Andres Blanco will split time at second until one's bat gets hot.
* As the media spoke to Washington in his office, Florida third baseman Jorge Cantu stepped to the plate in the Marlins' game at San Francisco.
Cantu was later pulled from the game, possibly in preparation to come to the Rangers in a trade, as Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com is reporting.
"Swing and a miss," Washington joked as Cantu took an ugly strike.
But Washington thinks Cantu could be the hit Texas needs to stay in the hunt for a World Series run.
"Of course we need something else," Washington said. "Anytime you can do anything to strengthen yourself and you have an opportunity, you want to do it.
"If for some reason nothing gets done, we're going to have to pull together and get it done ourselves, but we're certainly trying to get better."
* Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton was moved to third in Texas' lineup for tonight's finale against the A's.
Washington said the move was made to get Hamilton's bat at the plate as much as possible.
