ANAHEIM, Calif. -- A source confirmed the Rangers have traded for Cristian Guzman, but I don't have any details yet on the prospect or prospects traded. (MLB.c0m's T.R. Sullivan reports one of the prospects is Ryan Tatusko and MLB.com's Bill Ladson says the other is Frisco RHP Tanner Roark).

That said, Guzman gives this club more than just a guy that can fill in for Ian Kinsler while he's on the disabled list. Clearly, that was a big reason in making the move. Kinsler's strained groin could keep him out longer than the 15 days on the DL, so the Rangers wanted a bigger bat than they currently had on the roster to fill in for him.

But once Kinsler returns, Guzman has the flexibility to be a solid utility infielder and even outfielder if needed. He's played shortstop and right field this season. I want to see exactly what the Rangers gave up, but I like the idea of making sure you've got a decent bat in the lineup while Kinsler is out. If it turns out that he misses most of August, that's a critical time for this club even with th 8.5-game lead in the AL West.

More to come when we know it.
